To the incredible team who helped bring my son into this world on 21 January 2026,
I would like to express my deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to every nurse, midwife, and doctor who cared for us during this unforgettable moment at St George Public Hospital. I managed to note down a few names on my phone, though I know there were many more who supported us. If your name is not listed here, please know that my appreciation extends to you all the same. And my sincere apologies if I spell any name incorrectly.
On the morning of the caesarean section, my heart was pounding with nerves as my wife and I were taken to the ward after getting changed. Nurse Jasmine guided my wife inside and inserted the cannula. Later, when we returned to the maternity ward, my wife told me that Jasmine held her hand throughout the anaesthesia injection and during the birth itself. That small gesture became a powerful source of comfort for her, and for me, when I learned of it.
I would also like to thank Anaesthetist Simone. Her professionalism, calmness, and reassuring words gave my wife confidence and eased her fear of pain during the C section. Her presence made a difference that we will remember for a lifetime.
My heartfelt thanks also go to Midwife Jacqueline. Jacqueline gently cleaned our newborn son, and under her guidance, I was able to cut the umbilical cord—a moment that felt both surreal and sacred. Although her mask covered her face, I saw warmth and kindness in her eyes, the unmistakable eyes of someone who truly cares. My wife told me the same later that night. Thank you, Jacqueline, as well, for helping us with the Newborn Child Declaration.
On our first night, we were cared for by Midwife Marie and Zoe. I was touched again when Zoe spoke to my wife with such tenderness and said, “You can call me every time you breastfeed.” For a new mother—and for new parents navigating everything for the first time—those words meant more than she could ever know.
I would also like to express my gratitude to Katie, the midwife who visited us after we returned home. Thank you for patiently teaching us how to breastfeed and thank you for sharing—and even enjoying—my taste in music. Your warmth made those early days at home feel a little lighter and a lot more reassuring.
Finally, my special thanks go to all the nurses who looked after Room 14, during our stay. You cared, you supported, and you comforted—exactly as the saying goes:
“To cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always.”
You truly lived those words.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
