After a humiliating fall and consequent loss of dignity, I was admitted to Sutherland A&E for treatment and the staff in this department were fantastic.
My timeline on events in the first 24 hours was clouded by trauma and pain relief treatments but everyone treated me with respect and dignity and despite an awful fracture, involving ligament and tendon damage, I was not in any pain.
After the initial stabilisation of the dislocation, I was taken to Jara ward and was given the most incredible care, 24 hours around the clock, by both the qualified and nurses in training, who showed compassion and respect. Everyone always introduced themselves and used my name when talking me.
Dr Y and Dr SP both reassured me of the painful truth of my injury, but I made it to my surgical repair the following day and the healing process began.
The ward doctors, administration staff, pharmacists, physio and catering staff were all lovely, kind and supported me during my recovery. The imaging teams were considerate to lack of mobility and were compassionate during these scans.
As a nurse, being thrown over to the other side, of being a patient, I can only give praise and compliments the staff for their care. There certainly appeared to be an ethos of compassion and for that, I am truly grateful.
