"Unwanted appointments at the cancer centre"

About: Icon Cancer Centre

(as a service user),

Based on my experience I feel that they do not care about what is best for patients. Told on 6 occasions in under 3 months that I do not want their services and they are not right for me

Had a call out of the blue saying I had an appointment with them, I was to turn up, pay a fee and see their doctors. They would not answer any questions except to say I would be having multiple appointments and that they are payable on the day. I refused telling them I was not going to appointments (also travelling from the country) without knowing any basic details and that I could not afford it anyway. They said that it was cancelled. I believe that should have been the end of it as I felt they knew I did not want their services

They contacted me again saying an appointment had been made and that  all my questions had been answered in the calls and text messages. Also that they would bulk bill due to the information given to them by my "nominated agent". Except I never had any calls or texts.

I was told that I was to turn up, be subjected to scans, be given treatments, and be told exactly how many times they were going to have me there. I had not consented to anything. And nobody has been given consent to be giving and taking information about me but me. And that I have not given them information. I told them I needed a copy of whatever paperwork they have supposedly giving them the right to talk to strangers and make decisions with them without my knowledge. They would not answer that and said the appointment was cancelled. They would not supply the paperwork giving consent. Again, I believe that should have been the end of it as I have now told them twice that I refuse.

I then get another contact from them insisting that I must go there and that they will not accept cancellation without me attending. They insisted that I had to be there for an appointment in 36 hours. I told them to cancel, it was not happening and that there was no way as a disabled country person I could do it. They cancelled it. That was the third time I told them I was not using their service and that I was not coming. It was obvious to me that three times was not enough for them to be told

They sent yet another appointment. I told them there was no way that they were getting any money from me to tell them I was refusing so they said it would be bulk billed. I managed to get there and told them at the desk that I was again refusing to accept their demands on me and that I gave had more than enough. They called me into a room and someone I believe may have been a manager tried to convince me they listen to people and they were doing what was agreed. They tried to insist that I fill in forms giving them access to all sorts of information, but I refused as I believe they have no reason to be accessing information after being told that I refused. They then had the doctor see me and the doctor agreed what has been proposed was not right for me. They would not let me go without filling in more forms, despite again being told that I was not using their service. The fourth refusal.

They told me that I would be rung to see if I changed my mind. That never happened despite them saying it was a phone appointment that was being billed to Medicare. I sent an email telling them that this was unacceptable and again reaffirming (fifth time) that I was not interested, and that the forms they forced me to do were to be destroyed. They replied that they accepted that. Except it appears to me that they obviously didn't.

Forward 2 weeks and they again tell me they have made an appointment for me to go there to their doctors. I again refused (sixth time refusing) and told them to stop harassing me.

They claim that they follow the Patients Healthcare Rights. But, in my opinion, only when it suits them. Nobody should be getting harassed and forced like this in the way that I feel I have been, to the stage where it is adversely affecting health by a supposed "professional health care provider"

After six times refusing them it seems to me they are just trying to get money. When I went they had up patient "testimonials" saying how great they are. First time ever I have seen that in a medical facility.

If I hear anyone say they are possibly going there I will be warning them to stay well away based on my experience.
