"Moving my parent to rehab too soon"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Allied Health

(as a relative),

I was told my parent would only be moved to rehab when they were at baseline and they're far from it. My parent was moved to rehab while they're very unwell, not even being able to move their body in bed or sit in a chair.

We feel kept out of the loop and that my parent has been moved because they need the bed.

Dear cassiopeiajz86,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion.

I was sorry to hear of the poor communication that you received regarding your parents transfer to rehab. I understand how distressing and unsettling this must have been for you, especially when you felt that they were moved too soon and I sincerely apologise for any additional stress and anxiety this situation caused.

I encourage you to speak to the multidisciplinary team caring for your parent. They will be able to answer any questions that you may have regarding your parent’s care and rehabilitation goals. Please talk to them, they are here to help.

Thank you again for getting in touch. Our health service does appreciate your feedback as we are always looking at ways we can improve the service we provide, and your feedback assists us with that process.

Kind regards,

Jodi Graham
