"Rehabilitation following stroke"

About: SMHS Rehabilitation In The Home (RITH)

(as the patient),

Went to Peel Health Campus and was admitted. I had a stroke in the occipital lobe and temporal area and I had a week in there. I was seen by the OT before I went to make sure / to see what my sight was light as my vision has been affected. She came in, stepped me through a few things and made sure I can walk.

A few days later, she rang to make an appointment, and I said I didn’t need her. She seemed put out I can tell so she said, I think you should meet me once and make your decision so I did that. It was the best decision I made, she was very good.

The girl was a 120%-er and I’m pretty much like that. Once we got to know each other, I appreciated all the effort she put into it. She bought me puzzles and all these colouring in books and different shapes I never ever would have thought I needed to practice on for my vision. The word puzzles were very good, she got me a lot of search a words. Even when she finished, I said I’d like more search a words and she got a fellow to drop some off.

I think my vision has improved because of her pushing me. I had to do something every day and she marked it. She wasn’t like ‘you did a good job’. She’s say ‘you missed that, you missed that. I think you are too much in a hurry’. She’s a character.

She watched me cook a meal. I thought it quite odd but I felt good she’d done that. Her name was Lisa. She went above and beyond. She was a beautiful person. You can tell that is her profession of choice because she puts everything into it.

Dear talonhm47

Thank you for sharing your beautiful praise for Lisa, who is one of our Occupational Therapists in Rehabilitation in the Home. It was so lovely to hear how Lisa encouraged you to achieve your rehabilitation goals in relation to your vision following a stroke.

We are really glad that you engaged with our service and that you benefited from participating in home-based rehabilitation. All the best.

Kind regards,

Hannah Whiting
