"Bunbury/Busselton Maternity Services"

About: Busselton Health Campus / Maternity Unit, Childbirth & Parenting Education

(as the patient),

My baby was born early March in Bunbury but I was monitored for a few days prior in Busselton. I could not fault the care provided by the midwives and doctors, they were fantastic but are seriously overworked. On the day of my induction I drove between Bunbury and Busselton because of staffing issues ended up having my Foley’s balloon inserted in Busselton then had to present to Bunbury the following morning. Driving back and forward was exhausting and was an added stress to our experience. I also found there could be long waits for pain medication because of staffing issues.

Hi marchyq97,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, and congratulations on the birth of your baby.

It’s wonderful to hear how positively you felt about the care provided by our midwives and doctors. I will make sure your kind words are shared with the teams in both Busselton and Bunbury — they will really appreciate this recognition; particularly given how hard they are working.

I’m very sorry to hear how stressful and exhausting it was having to travel between sites around the time of your induction. Unfortunately, at times we do need to use both sites to manage care safely due to service capacity and staffing pressures, however we recognise that this places an additional physical and emotional burden on women and their families at a time when care should feel as smooth and supported as possible.

I’m also sorry that you experienced delays in receiving pain relief. We understand how important timely support is, and this is not the standard of care we strive to provide.

We are continuing to review these experiences, as we know that staffing pressures and movement between sites can impact both continuity of care and the overall patient experience. Your feedback is important in helping us highlight these challenges and advocate for improvements.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story. Wishing you and your family all the very best.

Kind Regards,

Marnie
