I attended the Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick yesterday for a gynae/oncology procedure. I have a rare genetic disease and lifelong disability, which makes my health care a little more complicated. It also makes me feel a little more anxious after many years of medical trauma. My experience at the RHW was the most caring and clinically responsive that I have ever had. Everyone in the team, from administration to nursing to surgical, looked after me with respect and professional skill.
It is the most patient-centred treatment I have ever received. Everyone took the time and concern to look after my psychological and physical wellbeing, and there was a rare willingness to hear and respond to my specific needs and concerns. As a result, I came home today with no iatrogenic harm, which is a wonderful and all-too uncommon occurrence.
"Excellent patient-centred care"
