"Extensive wait time for neurology appointment"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Neurology Department, Neurophysiology Outpatients & Ward 6B

(as the patient),

I’ve been waiting for an appointment for .6 months. I’m a priority 2 - wait time stayed on website states wait time is 31-90 days.

I constantly call the FSH outpatient number provided by FSH reception but no one ever answers. I’ve been trying every other day for months.

Dear septemberfg73,

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding your referral to the Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) Neurology Outpatients Department.

I am very sorry to hear of your prolonged wait for our Neurology services. I appreciate how frustrating this must be, particularly when wait times extend beyond recommended timeframes. Unfortunately, demand for Neurology services at FSH is currently extremely high, which has resulted in extended delays. We regularly audit our waitlists to ensure accuracy and to reduce wait times wherever possible.

If your symptoms are increasing, I encourage you to discuss this with your General Practitioner, who can provide updated clinical information to support escalation of your referral if required.

Regarding your comment about contacting the department by phone, it is difficult to provide a comprehensive response without knowing which number was used. However, our Neurology Outpatient Clinic has clerical staff available Monday to Friday during standard office hours.

As this platform is anonymous, we are unable to review the specifics of your referral. I encourage you to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service (PFLS) on (08) 6152 4013 during business hours, or via email at FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au, so we can look into your referral and provide you with a more tailored response.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback.

Kind regards,

Luke Dix
