"Poor treatment experienced by family of elderly patient"

About: St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital

(as a relative),

I feel that the treatment my family recieved when we expressed concerns about the discharge of my elderly parent to return home from the Restorative Unit at St John of Gods Mt Lawley in WA recently was utterly disgusting. I felt we were being pressured to take my parent home with little regard to our families current circumstance.

It seemed that not one person we saw at the hospital was looking out for what is best for our family or my elderly parent. I believe that not one person we saw at the hospital talking about any options except discharge to home.

I felt that they were taking advantage of my family as we do not know all the rules and requirements when requesting for nursing care.

I felt the staff, including doctors and OT, were seemingly doing everything in their powers to ensure my parent is discharged home regardless of the stress on my family or our mental health.

People told me the hospital staff and OT are there to help however what my family experienced was the complete opposite. I now know we were doomed from the start.

The stress which has now been placed on my family is unbearable. Based on my experience, I do not know how the staff or hospital can call themselves care providers.
