I’ve come all the way down from Coffs Harbour, travelled by bus, left 4pm yesterday afternoon. Got in at 1am to Sydney – been here since 10:30am and still waiting here. I’ve got to have a pterygium removed from my right eye. They told me I have to be here at 10:30am and I am still waiting. I am the last one for today. I’ve got to get a bus heading back home tomorrow. $150 later in travel. I’ve had to fast all day in 6am this morning, still fasting now. I haven’t been able to eat because of it. I’m still waiting for the surgery. I’m supposed to be staying in overnight as well. Sounds to me like it’s going to be pushed back to later. I don’t even have a way of getting back home if they push to keep me even longer. I’ve got no way of getting back home if I don’t get on this bus tomorrow. I have to leave the hospital by 4:30.
I’ve been waiting or 12 months to have this done, to do this procedure. When I got the first appointment to come down 12 months ago, I was only here for a 5 minute, when it seems they could have told me the stuff over the phone. They told me 12 months ago that I would be seeing several specialists.
In that appointment, I recall the doctor, said “it’s only day surgery you’ll be out that day” and then a nurse came in and said “no they won’t it’s over night”. Just ridiculous. It wasn’t only me, there was another patient I saw from the Gold Coast, they came all the way down for a 5 minute trip.
