I recently attended the breathing clinic and wanted to share how grateful I am for the care I received from the physio Courtney.
I had previously seen physiotherapists at a bigger hospital (I won’t name names, but new and fancy isn’t always the best is it) and felt quite dismissed there, which made me nervous about trying again, but I’m so glad I did. Seeing Courtney was a completely different experience.
From the very first appointment she was so kind and welcoming. She made me feel comfortable straight away and really took the time to listen to what I had been experiencing. I never felt rushed in any of my appointments. She let me talk (and talk and talk and talk), asked thoughtful questions, listened to me cry and complain, and made me feel like what I was going through actually mattered.
One of the things I appreciated most was how clearly she explained everything. She used simpleton language and took the time to make sure I understood what was happening with my breathing and why certain things might be helping or making it worse and for the first time I felt like things actually made sense.
She was also very patient and encouraging. I always felt supported and never judged. I always left appointments feeling calmer and more hopeful about managing my breathing.
On one visit when Courtney was away I saw a male physiotherapist who was filling in (I’m sorry I can’t remember his name). He was also very kind and lovely to deal with, and I felt well looked after that day as well.
People like Courtney make such a difference. Her kindness, care and the way she truly listens to patients means so much, especially after not feeling heard in the past. I am very grateful to have had her help, and to have access to a breathing clinic like this so close to home - Well done Armadale Hospital!
