"No longer alone"

About: SMHS Rehabilitation In The Home (RITH)

(as a relative),

Received today the letter from RITH the service in health. Came from home to hospital and we have some service from the therapy.

I want to talk about how they give a service - it is really, really impressive. Is very good service.

My husband lost memory 5 years ago after he got cancer one year after we marry. But I don’t know who I can tell – I just confused because I look after him by myself but sometimes I need to ask to someone how to do this one because I don’t know how to start. When I’m a bit stressed, I call my mum and my kids in Indonesia. I come here to Australia and I think my husband protect me and now I protect him.

My husband he forgot everything what happened last time because I always beside of him when the worker come here.

They listen carefully. They take time to listen to my story because my husband forgot everything. I explain first time. I need to talk to them because I think this is main thing is to talk with them so they know his story so it is maybe a bit help for them in how to give treatment.

They give service to us. First is Ricky and the second one is Lisa then Mel then we have Michaela – really good service for us and really happy to work with them.

I understand what they say and we try to practice because they give us so clear information and leave us the paper so we can practice every day what they teach us to do everything. Really satisfied with the service. They give really beautiful support now.

Really appreciate when come back from hospital and hospital did great job for my husband. They teach us to start to become good. Now by practice he start to become really good. Physically is really good. Just his brain can change. But physically really good now and really happy.

They look after us for transportation as well because I can’t drive. I used to give my friend money to get to hospital for fuel but now I don’t worry about appointments and there are so many appointments. My husband forgets and says how we get to appointments. Now I say I say no worries, now we always have government car always come to pick us.

Sometimes I feel sleepy in car because I feel relaxed. Now my husband says don’t go to sleepy because I have to tell them where to go.

I really appreciate the service and I talk to my mum in Indonesia about the service. I say mum now I’m really really happy because they have good service for my husband. I say I feel relaxed when go to the doctor and I don’t worry about going to hospital. I feel really comfortable now because I tell my husband now I’m not alone.

Dear 'nashirags85',

Thank you for sharing your story and your experience with the Rehabilitation in the Home (RITH) and CoNeCT team. We have passed on your lovely feedback to Ricky, Lisa and Mel from RITH and Michaela from CoNeCT. We are so glad that you found the staff helpful during your husband’s rehabilitation and that you also felt supported by the team. We understand it can be difficult to manage changes following a hospital stay, so it is great to hear that our staff were able to help you and your husband during this time.

Wishing you all the best for your husband’s ongoing recovery.

Kind regards

Hannah Whiting
