I was referred to Dr Piyush and the Immunology team at SCGH at a very challenging time in my treatment for advanced metastatic sarcoma, following hospitalisation due to an adverse reaction to the preferred targeted therapy. Dr Piyush's calm and compassionate approach made an immediate difference. He took the time to understand my situation in detail and approached my care with both expertise and genuine empathy.
I was seen within a very short timeframe, with my first appointment taking place just before Christmas. Dr Piyush maintained excellent communication as the bespoke desensitisation protocol and hospital admission were organised even over the busy new year and January time period, including scheduled phone appointments. I also understood that he was available to my oncologist for consultation during the administration of the protocol, which provided significant reassurance.
Dr Piyush's expertise has been fundamental in enabling me to access the preferred treatment. Because of the bespoke desensitisation approach, I am now able to tolerate a medication I take daily in the hope of stabilising my disease. As a result, I feel well and able to function in my day-to-day life.
Throughout the entire process, Dr Piyush was consistently calm, compassionate, and deeply knowledgeable. He gave me genuine hope at a time of great uncertainty, reassuring me that there would always be another option. I felt safe and fully supported in my care both before and after the desensitisation protocol.
Having access to the immunology service and amazing, experienced staff at SCGH has had a profound impact on both my access to life prolonging treatment and my quality of life.
