"No communication between Hospital and GP"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I had a kidney stone and went to the ED.

The staff in the ED and short stay ED unit were alright even with confusion between them and the specialists about if they were going to admit me.

I'm just unhappy about the communication between the hospital and my GP. Apparently this is an known issue with not keeping a patients GP in the loop.

Nothing was sent to my GP about what was going on.

Dear redwattlebird,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience presenting to Fiona Stanley Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED).

I am sorry to hear of the discomfort and uncertainty you experienced while seeking care for a kidney stone. While I appreciate your acknowledgement of the support provided by the ED and Short Stay teams, I recognise that the confusion surrounding whether you would be admitted would have added unnecessary stress during an already difficult time.

I was concerned to read of the lack of communication with your GP following your presentation. Effective and timely communication between hospital services and primary care providers is a vital component of safe and coordinated care. It is disappointing to hear that your GP did not receive information about your attendance, and I understand how this may have affected your follow‑up and continuity of care.

Your feedback highlights an area that would benefit from further review. As this platform does not allow us to identify individual cases, we are unable to look into the specifics without additional information. I encourage you to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service (PFLS) on (08) 6152 4013 during business hours, or via email at FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au, so that we can examine your concerns in detail and provide you with a comprehensive response.

Thank you again for bringing this issue to our attention.

Kind regards,
Nyrene Jackson
