"Self discharging myself"

About: Broome Health Campus / General ward

(as the patient),

Moved from a 4 bed room to another room only to lay there and hear nothing but abuse from another patient, yelling & be demanding. Seemingly drunk, walks freely in the hospital, I feel it should be a place to be safe

Im angry because I come to hospital to get better to go back to my kids 100%.

But now I have to self discharge because I feel the hospital normalises these behaviours & don’t attempt to cater for the 1’s who actually in pain & want to be there.

Dear errandyp55,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are very sorry to hear how distressing this was for you. Feeling unsafe or exposed to aggressive or abusive behaviour while you are unwell is understandably upsetting, and this is not the experience we want for our patients.

We are sorry that this situation led you to feel you had no option but to self‑discharge.

We take concerns like this seriously, and we would appreciate the opportunity to investigate what occurred so we can understand the situation better and identify any areas for improvement. If you are willing, please consider reaching out to us directly so we can investigate further and follow up appropriately, you can email melissa.stewart@health.wa.gov.au.

Thank you again for raising this with us. Your feedback is important and helps us work toward providing a safer and more supportive environment for all patients.

Kind regards,

Millie Stewart
