"Broome Positive Birth Class"

About: Positive Birth Program

(as a parent/guardian),

The Hypnobirth classes in Broome provided a positive environment to learn about how to prepare for birth. It covered a wide range of topics including some intervention based steps which might be required for a safe birth. Knowing more about intervention provides comfort in understanding that if things do go wrong, there are steps to be taken to ensure safety of mother and bub. This course could have potentially gone deeper into some of the risks of interventions.

It was a very interactive group course which allowed the conversation to naturally flow into topics of concern.

The course had limited cover of what to expect post birth. It would be good to see the course cover breastfeeding, wrapping, bathing, soothing, nap changes, safe sleep practices, doctors check up requirements, immunisation schedules and sleep programming. This could be either another full lesson or build into the current program timeline.

The facilitator was very well informed and had great knowledge. I would recommend this course to both partners as it was very beneficial for me as the dad.

Thank you,

Thank you 'Soon to be dad' for taking the time to share your experience with the Broome Positive Birth Program. It is especially wonderful to hear this from a dad’s perspective. We are really pleased to hear that you found the classes helpful and that they supported your understanding of both birth and the role you play in it.

It was great to read that learning about interventions provided some reassurance. As you have highlighted, understanding what might be required for safety can help families feel more prepared, empowered and confident if plans need to change. You have also raised an important point around wanting more detail about the risks of interventions. In our sessions, we aim to provide general, evidence-based information to support understanding, while recognising that every pregnancy and birth is unique. Because of this, more specific discussions about risks and individual circumstances are best explored with your care providers, who can tailor information to each family’s situation.

We really appreciate your thoughtful feedback around postnatal content as well. Those early days bring a whole new set of skills and questions, and having practical guidance can make a big difference.

We do offer a dedicated 4th Trimester, Breastfeeding and Early Parenting Program, which covers topics such as feeding, settling, wrapping, bathing, parenting, safe sleep and what to expect in those early weeks.

While we know in-person sessions can be incredibly valuable, we are not always able to offer every program face-to-face at each location. This program is currently available online so families can still access that support, no matter where they live.

Thank you again for your kind words about the facilitator. We also think Lindsay is professional and knowledgeable. We will be sure to pass that on, it will make her day.

Thanks for recommending the course to other partners. It’s so important that partners feel informed, included and confident too.

Wishing you and your family all the very best and we hopefully see you in one of our Telehealth programs soon.

Kind regards

Kasey
