I feel incredibly fortunate to have been supported by Felicity as my Community Health Nurse.
With my first two children, I only attended one or two CHN appointments. I often found those experiences to be quite intimidating and, at times, judgemental. As a first-time mum, asking questions sometimes left me feeling unsure of myself rather than supported, which ultimately led me to disengage from the service altogether.
However, when my third baby was born 8 weeks prematurely, I knew I would need guidance - particularly around adjusted developmental milestones, so I made the decision to re-engage. That decision has been one of the best I’ve made, entirely because of Felicity.
Felicity is everything a Community Health Nurse should be. She is incredibly knowledgeable, but more importantly, she delivers that knowledge with kindness, empathy, and genuine care. There has never been a question too small, too “silly,” or too complex - she answers everything thoroughly and without a hint of judgement or condescension. She has a remarkable way of making you feel confident and capable as a parent, rather than uncertain or inadequate.
At every appointment, she has reassured me, encouraged me, and acknowledged the effort I’m putting in as a mother. Being told you’re doing a good job - especially during the vulnerable postpartum period - has a profound impact, and Felicity does this so naturally.
Because of her, I have attended every single appointment with my third child, something I never did with my older children. That alone speaks volumes about the therapeutic relationships she builds with her clients - full of trust, comfort, and respect.
In my experience, it is professionals like Felicity who make families want to engage with community health services, not avoid them. I believe her approach is exactly what other clinicians in these services should strive for and goes far beyond clinical care - empowering parents, building confidence and creating safe supportive environments where families can truly thrive.
She is an invaluable asset, and the level of care she provides should be recognised, supported, and protected.
"Amazing child health nurse Felicity"
