"Grateful for care at Kyneton Hospital"

About: Kyneton Hospital / Perioperative Services

(as the patient),

I was a day patient. I had an umbilical hernia operation. I appreciated the regional hospital and I know it’s not under as much pressure. But from the get go, there was a smile from everyone. Calm, methodical. Then explanation – now this is happening, now that’s happening’.

They had space enough to have a little side chat, maybe about the weather and things like that. They kept it very human. Know how much pressure metro hospitals are under. None the less, this is what happened.

I was made to feel physically and psychologically safe. They were just they were very attentive. I was checked on more frequently than I imagined would be the case. In post op, the nurse stayed there managing my pain, titrating it until she got it right. She’d ask ‘how about now’, then ask for a score between 0-10 and again ‘how about now’.

They got a bit busier later in the afternoon and I was keen to get home to my children. I would have loved to be discharged a smidgen sooner to see my children but I wouldn’t call that criticism.

I then got a follow-up phone call the next day.

I am so grateful to the nurses. The surgeon was busy but said hi and was friendly. The anaesthetist had a great manner, friendly, not brisque, a good manner. I just wanted to make sure they received that feedback. I tried to make clear how grateful I was on the day but probably used to people coming out of general anaesthetic feeling effusive and I want them to know how grateful I truly am.

Hi saturnhh77,

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We recognise how important it is to communicate effectively with all of our patients; and certainly, with surgical patients where the unfamiliar environment can be stressful. What you have shared validates the caring and professional approach taken by our staff and that we are delivering on our organisations goal to deliver ‘best care for every person, every time’.
