"ENT department"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Ear Nose & Throat

(as the patient),

In 2022 I was diagnosed for the deviated septum and assist in my left sinus. Fiona Stanley accepted my referral in August 2022 and I am not heard anything in this now 2026. I have been back to the doctors constantly due to constant sinus infections. It is affect my work and my personal life. I have even gone to the emergency department to see what they can do at Rockingham. They contacted you to understand where I was, and advised I was still on the waiting list and had to wait. My Doctor who proceeded to submit the referral. Did you put on the fact that it was urgent and I still not heard anything. It is now been four years since I referral was submitted.

Dear quebectd88,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

I am very sorry to read about the length of time you have been waiting and the ongoing impact this has had on your health, work and day-to-day life. Living with recurrent sinus infections over such a prolonged period would be both frustrating and exhausting, and I acknowledge how difficult this must have been for you.

Referrals to Fiona Stanley Hospital’s Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) service are prioritised based on clinical urgency, using the information provided at the time of referral. While this ensures that patients requiring the most urgent care are seen first, I recognise that this does not lessen the impact of extended waits for those continuing to experience significant symptoms. I am sorry this has been your experience.

I am also concerned to hear that you have not received any communication regarding your referral over this time. Patients should feel informed about their care and where they are on the waiting list, and I acknowledge that this has not occurred in your case.

As Care Opinion is an anonymous platform, we are unable to access your individual details here. I would strongly encourage you to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service (PFLS) so we can review your referral, confirm your current status, and ensure your situation is appropriately assessed. PFLS can be contacted on (08) 6152 4013 during business hours or via email at FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au.

Thank you again for bringing this to my attention. Your experience highlights the importance of both timely access to care and clear communication, and this feedback will be shared with the relevant teams.

Yours sincerely,

Nyrene Jackson
