I went into Port Macquarie Base Hospital for a day surgery. Only to find myself waking up in the stroke ward attached to monitors, IV in my arm and Oxygen tubes in my nose. During surgery aspiration pneumonia had occurred. This is when the contents of the stomacch rises then enters down into the lungs.
Of course in the four and a half days I was left in the ward with no doctors coming and explaining what had happened. Only until the morning of my discharge did the surgeon come in and say how good I look and I can go home. They then left and that was my explanation.
There was also a first year intern at my surgery without my permission. There were inconsistencies in my discharge papers that were not correct. For these reasons I have submitted a complaint to the HCCC. This is not the first time I have had to call in the HCCC.
Several years ago they misdiagnosed my ill parent and sent them home after saying they would do an MRI. They didn't and they were flown the a different hospital where they removed one of my parent's three brain tumours. Giving them 6 more months to live.
The same hospital left my child in the waitng room for five hours. Soaked in sweat vomit and diarrhoea. By the time they tried to put an IV in, their veins had collapsed. The apologies came as we found out they were supposed to be seen in 25 minutes.
