About: War Memorial Hospital

(as a carer),

The iREADI program has been nothing short of transformative for our family. My mum joined nine weeks ago in a place of denial following her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. She has come out the other side feeling hopeful, empowered, and far more at peace than I ever thought possible.

The shift in her mindset has been profound. What once felt overwhelming and uncertain now feels more manageable, and that has changed not only her outlook, but ours as a family.

One of the most impactful elements of the program has been the sense of connection it fosters. Being able to share this experience with others going through something similar has made an enormous difference. As a carer, it has also had a deep impact on me. I feel far less alone, and there is real comfort in knowing there is a community of people who understand.

Christine is truly the backbone of this program. I cannot speak highly enough of her. Her warmth, compassion, and genuine dedication to each participant is exceptional. Of all the medical professionals my mum has encountered throughout this journey, Christine stands out as the most caring and committed to her wellbeing.

I am incredibly grateful for this program and the role it has played in helping my mum, and in supporting me as her carer.

Dear eaterr77,

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback on the impact of the iREADi program on yourself and your Mum. Christine and the team certainly do tremendous work in navigating both client and carer through a very stressful post diagnostic phase. It sounds like your Mum's and family's perspective has been positively shifted in the face of her Alzheimer's diagnosis. Since the beginning of the iREADi program, the carer network has been a real win for many. The numbers have grown and our annual afternoon tea, bringing all program graduates back together, has been very touching and impressive in terms of ongoing healthy ageing and quality of life outcomes.

Please take our gratitude for penning your thoughts. It makes a lot of difference to our very valued WMH team members to be recognised, albeit they are usually very humble. Pass on our regards also to your mother. Hope to see you at the 2026 iREADi Afternoon Tea in October.

Kind regards,

Jane McGuire
