Prior Antenatal Care

The antenatal care provided was well-organized and reassuring. all staff members demonstrated strong clinical knowledge and professionalism. Routine screenings, scans, and tests were explained clearly, by either GP obs or midwives, which helped build confidence throughout the pregnancy. Kendall at the physio department was amazing at managing my aches and pains - approaching such with a high level of empathy.

Delivery Experience

My delivery team was supportive and attentive during labor. Midwive Rikki was particularly compassionate, offering both emotional reassurance and practical guidance. staff respected preferences outlined in my birth plan where possible. The environment felt safe.

Following delivery, bleeding complications were identified and managed promptly. Medical and midwifery staff acted quickly and demonstrated clinical competence in rectifying. All medical and procedural interventions / rationale / consent were explained in detail. The environment was kept calm and my partner and I felt fully supported and advocated for.

A special Thankyou to Rikki, Skye, Aimee and Dr W.

Postnatal Care

Postnatal care was mixed. Throughout admission the midwives were kind and supportive—particularly with breastfeeding guidance and newborn care advice.

During this time it was noticed to be very busy in department however we never felt abandoned nor made to feel like a burden - Assistance was available when requested. Additionally, a thank you to Rosie and Talor for making it such a good experience.

A notable concern is postnatally, after the visiting midwife service ends, the ED and GP care in the community felt contradictory, inconsistent and at times inadequate in addressing postnatal concerns.

As a result, there was a heavy reliance on the maternity ward outpatient services, and king eddies hotlines, for ongoing support and guidance after discharge. I believe this placed additional pressure on hospital services and made the transition to community-based care feel less seamless than I think it should be.

I would like to thank Skye, Jim and Andy , additionally child maternal/lactation nurses Michelle and Janette, for going above and beyond during this postpartum period.

Dear dracogd38,

Thank you for taking the time to bring such positive and detailed feedback to our attention about the care you received during your birthing experience at Esperance Health Campus.

It is heartwarming to hear how supported and safe you felt during the antenatal, childbirth, and postnatal periods of care, with input and attention from right across our multidisciplinary team. Your comments around the professionalism of staff and their level of attention, empathy and compassion was lovely to receive and we will ensure that this is fed back to the team directly.

I would also like to thank you for the feedback about your experience with service gaps in the postnatal period, with continuity of care issues in the community. This is an area of concern that the Midwifery and Community Nursing teams are aware of, and are actively working with providers to address through increasing awareness and improving supports available within the local community.

Thank you once again for taking the time to provide feedback about our staff and services, and we hope that you and your new baby are continuing to do well.

Kind regards

Deryck Lykke
