"Immunology Team - Care, Patience & Compassion"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Immunology

(as the patient),

In February 2025 a very nasty reaction to an antibiotic resulted in a rare autoimmune response called D.R.E.S.S. Syndrome, leaving me hospitalised and very very ill. From then until most recently, the immunology team, particularly Prof Michaela, Dr Piyush and the Clinic Team have been an integral part of my return to good health.

Due to the rarity of the condition, expertise in managing and understanding the critical impacts on health during and after hospitalisation can be difficult to find. This also includes emotional impacts from such a prolonged recovery. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the wisdom and care from these wonderful doctors at what was a particularly traumatic period in my life. They were patient when I often was not, always left space for me to ask questions and ensured that I knew what was happening to me during each step of my care. I have finally finished patch testing at the clinic to ascertain the culprit antibiotic and to the staff there I also give my sincere and warmest thanks.

Dear smilingnow26,

Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback about your experience at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Immunology Clinic.

I was very sorry to read about your experience with D.R.E.S.S. syndrome and can only imagine how frightening and distressing this must have been for you. I appreciate you taking the time to reflect on and share your feedback following what was clearly a very challenging period.

Thank you for acknowledging the care and expertise of our staff, particularly Prof Michaela, Dr Piyush and the Immunology Clinic team. Your kind words have been shared with them and the broader team, and they will sincerely appreciate knowing that their patience, clear communication and support played an important role in your recovery.

Feedback such as yours is always valued, as it provides meaningful recognition for our staff and reflects the impact of their commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care.

Kind regards,

Renee de Prazer
