"UK visitor concerned about possible blood clot after long flight."

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

I was visiting my daughter in Sydney from UK and after flight had severe pain in my leg and it was swollen. I thought I had better check it out. My daughter took me to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. They were fantastic there. Did a blood test and arranged a scan for me in two days time- the next day being Australia Day and no-one on ultrasound that day. They put me on blood thinners until then. Had scan which was clear but doctor who was lovely advised me to have another one in a week’s time.

I had a busy schedule travelling in the next few days and he helped me look at my schedule and we worked out I could fit one in when in Brisbane which my daughter booked for me. Everyone was so kind and professional and I was so grateful to be looked after so well as it is more stressful if something happens when you’re not in your own country. Also, to my amazement, treatment was free as it was under a reciprocal agreement with UK.  I can’t praise the staff in Prince of Wales A&E enough. Thank you so much.

Dear thubanbt44,

Thank you so much for sharing your story about your experience with our amazing Emergency Department team.

I am so pleased to hear that you felt supported and well looked after, especially whilst on holiday from a different country. It is wonderful that you were well looked after over our long weekend and that the team accommodated around your holiday and itinerary.

It is so lovely to hear that you were provided with kindness, personalised support, encouragement and that you felt our staff from all disciplines were adaptable and collaborative.

Myself and the Emergency Department team wish you continued good health and enjoyment of life ahead. I hope you enjoyed your visit to Australia.

Kind regards,

Barbara
