(as a volunteer/advocate),

The paid staff member at Bunbury MH Unit was moved to Busselton which I understand has left Bunbury without this essential support person. I believe this must be put right urgently and more staff are required for this vital role, now!

If you are fortunate enough to have not had to deal with mental health issues of a family member/loved one, believe me this position is an essential part of the health system. This cannot be stressed strongly enough. Urgent action is required.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for speaking so strongly about the importance of Peer Workers.

I am sorry to hear about your concerns regarding the current lack of Peer Worker support in Bunbury. As a service we understand how important this role is for people experiencing mental health challenges, as well as for their families and loved ones. Peer Workers bring lived experience, compassion and understanding, and their support can make a real difference in someone’s recovery journey.

I recognise that the recent change in staffing has impacted access to this important support locally. Please be assured that we take this seriously.

We are committed to strengthening our peer workforce across the South West, including Bunbury. This includes actively working to recruit additional Peer Workers, reviewing how our services are delivered, and exploring flexible ways to improve access to peer support so that people can receive the care they need, when they need it.

Your feedback is valuable and helps us to continue improving our services for the community.
