My wife was diagnosed with Leukemia.
This meant that that she would be spending months getting treatment which also meant both of us relocating closer to the hospital. Seeing were were close to 200kms south east it was a good 2 hour journey. So we were advised we would have to relocate to Perth for quite a few months.
The leukemia foundation was awesome. The coordination between staff at the hospital organized a unit I for myself and wife to relocate to so I had a base and my wife had somewhere to be as an outpatient. We were very grateful but it was further north than the hospital and from our farm where we lived and was also advised PAT’s program would subsidize some sort of accommodation if we met the criteria. We managed to find a rental friends of ours helped us secure and that has now become our base.
It’s been nearly 2 months and the PAT’s program has been a massive assistance with the out of pocket costs associated with having to rent a place in the city.
This will be an ongoing situation for us and is reassuring that there is an assistance program to help county people who are already having to give up there job and lifestyle to relocate but at least be supported with accommodation assistance
