"P A T S rembursement"

About: Patient Assisted Travel Scheme - WACHS Midwest

(as a carer),

We feel that P A T S should cover  accomodation when you go to Perth to see a specialist that has look after you for many years and knows your medical history rather than Geraldton specialist which is a stranger to your condition. As an aged pensioner it is always good to feel comfortable we paid our taxes over many years I think that is not much to ask for also going to Perth is not a holiday and all we wish to do see our doctor to go home as soon as possible. Please have some consideration for senior people in your community.

Dear bluezw65,

Thank you for taking to Care Opinion to share your concerns.

I understand your desire to continue to work with your long term Specialist in Perth.

As you may be aware there are regulations governing PATS and travel and accommodation subsidies are provided to the nearest available eligible (public or private) specialist medical service or telehealth service that meets the clinical timeframe specified by the referring or treating practitioner.

To provide PATS assistance to travel to your original specialist if there is a closer one, we would require a clinical reason for you to do so. Without knowing your specific details I would be unable to provide confirmation, if you would like to reach out to me I would be pleased to discuss and see if there is any support that can be provided to you. My name is Karen Street, I am the PATS Coordinator for the Midwest and can be reached on 9956 1962.

Alternatively you can also review our website https://www.wacountry.health.wa.gov.au/Our-patients/Patient-Assisted-Travel-Scheme-PATS. There is lots of great information on this site to help you navigate the PATS system and your exact question is listed in our FAQ section.

I hope you are well and I look forward to hearing from you if you decide to get in touch.

Kind regards

Karen Street
