"My story is about recovery from alcohol relapse with the help of counselling"

About: Lives Lived Well – Nowra (Nana Muru)

(as a service user),

I was struggling with a relapse with alcohol after a long period of sobriety. There had been a lot of external stressors and I fell back into using alcohol to cope.

I was filled with shame, guilt and regret and didn’t know where to turn. I’m a single parent so money is tight and I couldn’t find any help that I could afford.

Luckily, I found Nana Munu and was linked with a counsellor that was a great fit for me. We held twice weekly sessions that helped me cope wit some major changes in my life, as well as addressing past trauma and grief, so that I didn’t feel the need to turn to alcohol again. My counsellor is a sounding board, supporter and someone I trust to share any and all of my issues related to alcohol with.

Hello,

Congratulations on reaching out for supports.

I understand the feelings which come with a lapse/relapse after a period of sobriety well and know how hard it can be to put your hand up and ask for help.

I am glad you found your way to Nanu Maru and the amazing team there. It sounds like you have done some serious work to look at what will be best for you and I hope you are seeing the rewards.

Thank you for taking the time to write your post. Keep up the great work.

Kris
