"My first baby"

About: Armadale Hospital / Maud Bellas Maternity Ward & Neonatal Nursery

(as the patient),

I just wanted to give a huge shout out to my midwife Erin from Armadale Hospital. I was having my first baby and she honestly made the whole experience a 10/10! I'm so grateful she was my midwife.

The only things I had an issue with were:

1. the lack of parking for some of my antenatal appointments. The overflow parking is so far from the antenatal building and when you're pregnant with pelvic pain it's a bit far to walk.

2. The wait for the anaesthetist to give me the epidural during the birth. It was about 6am and there was only one anaesthetist on so all the midwife could do was keep calling them. My contractions were unbearable so it would have been nice not to wait so long.

Dear aquilazd58

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, and for your wonderful feedback about Erin. Hearing that she made your first birth a 10/10 experience is so special. We are very fortunate at Armadale Hospital to have such a dedicated Obstetrics and Maternity team, and feedback like yours really reinforces why our staff love the work they do. Your kind words will be shared with Erin and the team.

I’m sorry to hear about the difficulty you experienced with parking during your antenatal visits. Parking availability across the site remains one of our biggest challenges, particularly in providing general access and meeting operational needs. We’ve looked closely at our parking options, but increasing capacity is difficult and we are continuing to work on solutions that support our services while also making access easier for the people who visit our hospital.

I apologise for the delay you experienced in receiving your epidural. I understand that being in pain while waiting would have been very distressing and thank you for raising this concern. At that time of the morning, we have one anaesthetic registrar on duty, and if they are already with another patient, a delay can occur. When this occurs, the wait may be longer, there is an escalation pathway in place to help support timely care.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re so pleased that Erin helped make your birth experience such a positive one, and we wish you and your family all the very best as you enjoy this precious time with your little one.

Warm wishes
