"Positive experience in Kalgoorlie ED"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My 1.5 year old was stung/bitten by something at school pickup when collecting his older sibling. With my partner being allergic to bee stings I absolutely panicked and took my child to the ED immediately. We were triaged immediately by a lovely and caring nurse by the name of Ko. She was reassuring, calm and informative of what she needed to do and what the next steps would be. I often feel conflicted whether I am over reacting by presenting to ED and wasting anyone's time, or if I am going to miss the signs and leave it too late before presenting.

Ko was extremely empathetic and reassuring in that when it comes to our children's health don't ever feel like I was over reacting. Her gentle nature made the entire experience less stressful. Dr Julian who examined my son after triage was also extremely reassuring, empathetic and explained what he was going to examine and why. All in all, this experience has left me with confidence in the Kalgoorlie Health Campus's ability to care for myself and my families health. I cannot explain my appreciation enough and I hope both Ko, Dr Julian & any other Nurse or student that were present are commended for their wonderful care. I am very grateful for the care received. Thank you all.

Dear tiger2002

We are very pleased to hear about the care your child and family received during what must have been a very stressful moment. It is completely understandable to feel concerned in situations like this, especially with a family history of allergic reactions, and we want to reassure you that you did exactly the right thing in seeking medical attention.

Your kind words about Nurse Ko and Dr Julian are greatly appreciated. We are proud to have staff who demonstrate such compassion, empathy and clear communication, and it is wonderful to know they were able to provide reassurance and make your experience less stressful. We will ensure that your feedback is shared with them, along with the wider team involved in your care.

Please never feel that you are overreacting when it comes to your child’s health. We would always rather you attend and have your concerns addressed than worry at home.

Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback and for recognising our team. We are delighted that your experience has given you confidence in the care we provide, and we wish you and your family all the very best.

Kind regards

Margaret Smillie
