Last week I had hip replacement surgery at my local regional hospital. I attended a seminar a couple of months ago at outpatients and was told I could get domestic assistance through My Aged Care for after I have my surgery. I live alone. I registered for my aged care after the seminar and when they triage me the next day they told me that I would have to arrange that through the hospital during my stay.
After my surgery, I asked the OT about that and they said yes they can arrange it. They OT asked me to please speak to the staff member on the next day. The next day I asked the other OT about it and they said they had no idea what I was talking about and that the hospital did not arrange this. When I said that the OT the previous day had given it a name (an acronym I cant remember) I was told that that was rehabilitation in Home and that I did not qualify for that.
I was not given a reason why I didn’t qualify for the in-home rehab. It wasn’t, in any event, what I was looking for anyway. I felt that I was given the run around by the OT’s in hospital and that I was sent home totally unprepared.
This caused my a lot of stress immediately after a traumatic procedure.
