"Presented to ED suspected Stroke"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department Fiona Stanley Hospital / Haematology and Transfusion Medicine & Ward 7D

(as the patient),

Earlier this month, I had a suspected stroke and was drive by ambulance to FSH. I waited 1 hour ramping before triaged and then taken to waiting room for 12 hours to be seen. I had obs done but basically was in at 530pm and seen 5.30am the next day. Eventually had ct scan and was admitted with a blood vessel blocked. 3 days in and sent home. In my opinion, this is unacceptable!

Dear Helfz63,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience following your recent presentation to the Emergency Department at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH).

I am very sorry to hear about the delays you experienced during your visit, particularly given the seriousness of your symptoms. I can appreciate how distressing and unsettling this situation would have been for you.

Patient safety and timely care are our highest priorities, and we regret that your experience did not meet these expectations. Your feedback is important and helps us to understand where improvements are needed. While Emergency Departments prioritise patients based on clinical urgency, I acknowledge that the length of time you waited and your overall experience would have been challenging under such stressful circumstances.

As Care Opinion is anonymous, we are unable to review your care in detail or investigate the specific concerns you have raised through this platform alone. I would encourage you to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service (PFLS) on (08) 6152 4013 or via email at FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au so we can learn more about your experience and follow this up appropriately.

Thank you again for sharing your experience. Your feedback is valued and plays an important role in improving the care we provide.

Kind regards,

Luke Dix

A/Executive Director
