I had a routine mammogram at the end of April and then I was called in to have further testing done. I went in on Tuesday and had further scans, followed by a consultation with Dr Catherine who was absolutely fantastic, she was very respectful and has a great bedside manner. I felt so at ease with her care. She advised me that I needed to have a breast biopsy because of an abnormality found on scans and she explained to me that it could be cancer.
I went back for the results on Thursday and Dr Catherine introduced me to a nurse at the appointment too. I suspected bad news then and I found out I had breast cancer but it was caught early, with good treatment options available and a good prognosis.
Dr Catherine was very compassionate and understanding, she made sure I was okay and acknowledged my partner's feelings too. And made sure I had tissues! After the appointment my partner and I spoke with the nurse who was also very compassionate and respectful, she knew we were both in shock and made sure we were okay.
I can't thank Dr Catherine and the nurse enough for their fantastic care. All of the staff I saw on Tuesday and Thursday were excellent and very professional. Now I have a bit of a journey ahead of me but I'm just so glad I got that routine mammogram because it detected my cancer early, even though I had no symptoms or felt any lumps.
