I was a patient through the MGP4 program and gave birth at KEMH. Even though it didn’t go as expected as I had some complications, I still had a really positive experience. My midwives were absolutely incredible and I felt so supported and safe throughout my pregnancy, my labour and the birth of my daughter. I still think of it fondly and my husband and I are both so grateful for my amazing birth team.
I was lucky to have 3 midwives, they all worked so well together and ensured my daughter and I were very well taken care of. I wanted to give a huge shout out to my wonderful midwives; Chloe for taking such great care of me during my pregnancy and postnatal visits, and to Emma and Paula for their reassurance and encouragement during my labour and delivery. There was a student midwife in attendance at my birth as well - her name escapes me but she was absolutely amazing, she’s going to make an incredible midwife when she graduates!
To my medical team, thank you for overseeing my admission, delivery and for stitching me up so well. I would also like to personally mention my anaesthetist (I think Dr Han was his name) - he was so kind, patient and gentle. He did such a great job with my epidural and kept me calm throughout the whole procedure.
The only criticism I have to add regards the ward stay after my birth. The staff were wonderful, the birth suite was excellent, the amenities were fine, but the mattress on the ward was not adequate for post delivery (particularly vaginal birth). It felt very worn in the middle, which put a lot of pressure & discomfort on my stitches/catheter insertion. It’s a good thing the hospital is getting an upgrade, new beds are essential for a speedy recovery if mum’s experience postpartum complications like myself.
