Once we received the diagnosis for my 92 year old mother s brain cancer we didn't initially go into overdrive as we were not really sure about the time line. Once it became apparent that it was aggressive and mum didn't want treatment we noticed her fast decline. At that point there had been no discussions with Palliative care as she wasn't interested and I was working away. When I returned home from work I noticed a rapid decline and I knew that she would prefer to be at my house for her final journey. I organised a referral with her GP for Palliative care to assess mum. Basically the very next day the amazing staff were calling to arrange meetings, the social worker Meredith came straight to the house. She also helped me navigate changing mums aged care package and had a new provider organised the next day. The Palliative care nurses arrived the amazing Emma & Laura. The very next day Laura & Jen were back to educate me on the medication. Each day the Palliative care nurses Laura, Dana & Sonia were in constant contact and offering amazing service to the house. The after hours Palcat team Edwin, Shelagh & Renata. All of these people made mums Journey possible. I would like to extend on behalf of myself & my family our sincerest gratitude to the South West WA Palliative care team.
"My mother recently passed after being diagnosed with brain cancer."
