"KEMH MGP4 service"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I have now had two babies through the MGP4 program at KEMH, and our first through the FBC and I cannot speak highly enough of the care we received in MGP4

We were very fortunate to have Elly as our primary midwife for both the birth of our second son and then now again for our third son. To have the same midwife support us through the births of both babies feels like such a special part of our family’s story. Having someone who already knew us, our history and what was important to us made a huge difference throughout my pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey.

Elly’s care was exceptional. She is so knowledgeable and supportive but also confident and a bubbly personality that always made us feel positive, heard and safe. She took the time to understand my hopes for this birth and supported us at every step. We credit both Elly and the MGP4 program as the reason I was able to achieve another low-intervention water birth I had hoped for and have such a positive experience at every point of the pregnancy journey. During labour, having a familiar face by our side gave us so much confidence and reassurance and created a light hearted and happy atmosphere. Her encouragement, advocacy and expertise helped create a birth experience that was everything we had hoped for.

The mgp postnatal home visits are also so great and make me feel so supported in those early days post birth.

We will always be so grateful to Elly and the entire MGP4 team for the care they provided our family. This model of care is very special, and we feel so lucky to have experienced it twice with the same midwife :)

*We also had an amazing student midwife, Giselle who was there during appointments and for the birth of our son and encourage everyone to also make the most of student midwives where possible.

Dear Mumandbub,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) and Family Birth Centre and congratulations on the birth of your new baby!

I really enjoyed reading your story and of your experience with MGP. How wonderful you were able to have Elly as your primary midwife throughout 2 of your pregnancies. It is clear from your story that Elly provided you with safe and informative care and has left a lasting impact on your family’s story with her bright personality and words of encouragement.

I was also pleased to read you allowed a student midwife to follow your journey, student midwifes like Giselle rely on following women’s pregnancy journey to complete their studies and gain hands on experience learning. It was wonderful to read Giselle was encouraging and that she was another familiar face during your pregnancy.

Your story highlights the powerful impact of continuity of care and how it can benefit women and their families during pregnancy and post-partum. It will give me great pleasure to share your story with Elly the wider MGP team.

Wishing you and your family all the best.

Kind regards,

Karen
