"Clinician at the hospital"

About: Kimberley Country Health Service

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

A patient came to me yesterday and stated that last week when they came to see the clinician at the hospital, the clinician was, in their opinion, very rude and dismissive. The clinician did not make any eye contact with the patient and only spent a small amount of time with them and the patient felt the clinician did not listen to any of their concerns.

The patient did experience high anxiety after this consult and is now very reluctant to go back to the hospital to seek medical assistance. The patient has discussed this with not only me, but also several other community members.

Dear caelumfc97,

Thank you for bringing this concern forward. It is concerning to hear that the patient felt the clinician was rude and dismissive, and that the interaction caused significant anxiety to the point they are now reluctant to return for care.

I appreciate you passing this information on, particularly as the patient has also shared their experience with other community members. I will ensure this feedback is directed through the appropriate channels for review.

If the patient is comfortable, please encourage them to make contact with James Sherriff (District Director – West Kimberley) on 9194 2855 or via email James.Sherriff@health.wa.gov.au so appropriate follow‑up and support can be arranged.

Kind regards,

James Sherriff
