"Same unprofessional doctor"

About: St John of God Midland Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I’ve been suffering from chronic abdominal pain since 2024 (now 2 years). I am a young adult. It usually responds to pain medication, but there have been instances where I have maxed out the medication, and the pain has not changed at all. This is when I go to ED. It’s usually at night, and it’s now happened enough times that I’ve taught myself to not go to Midland ED if I flare at night, because of one specific doctor. When sent to the second waiting room, where the doctor spends a lot of time, I have been told by them, and I say this as close to what they said as I can remember:

“Come on, you’re scrolling on your phone, you’re obviously not in that much pain,” or, “you’re fine.” Something along those lines. I was at a 10 on the pain scale, scrolling instagram in an attempt to distract myself. I am autistic. The bright lights, uncomfortable chairs, my already not great mental state and now this caused a break down. I did not want to be alive with this pain.

Another incident with this doctor was when I had a seizure. They did my bloods and told me that because my labs were fine, I must be fine. I felt there was an insinuation in their tone that it wasn’t real, or I was faking. I’ve been diagnosed with a seizure condition since then. I understand it must be confusing to treat patients with chronic conditions but we still have emergencies and still deserve respect and the same level of care as anyone else.

I now go to another ED for emergencies as I feel they give me that respect and care, and don’t try to seemingly gaslight me into believing I’m a drug seeker. I might consider trusting Midland more if this doctor is to be given mandatory training or, in my opinion.
