Over a weekend I attended the SHDH Emergency Department to get an x ray of my shoulder after injuring it playing football. I was able to get the x ray and speak to a DR in a timely manner. However, I had to wait for the formal report until Monday as SHDH will not receive it until then. Skeptical, I represent to the SHDH Emergency Department as advised, with the sole intention of gaining access to my x ray report, I was re-triaged and wait 2 hours. While I appreciate it is not an Emergency, all I wanted was the report so that i could follow up on my care independently. However there was no avenue for anyone, other than waiting for a DR to get the formal report. I left due because I had to go to work.
I managed to get a GP appointment recently with SHDH, I called the Emergency Department prior to my appointment to confirm that the GP will be able to get access to the X Ray. I was informed I could. However the GP could not access the X Ray report and I was charged a co-payment of $47 for that appointment.
Other than an FOI request I honestly don't know how I can access to my own x ray report.
I understand the Health Records Act 2001 gives me a right to access my health information in an easily accessible and inexpensive manner. In my opinion, SHDH have not done this.
