I am a 90 year old patient, I reside in aged care. I need assistance with my personal care needs and continence management. Unfortunately, I was admitted for 4 days to Leongatha Hospital with an infected wound. This experience was horrific. In this time my dentures were never cleaned, I was given a face washer to wash my face. This was the sole personal care that I received. I requested lip balm, the nurse said they didn't have any - I feel they couldn't be bothered, however the next nurse brought me some. Another nurse said they would come back for personal care on the third day, this never happened. They always said they were busy. It was a very miserable experience, and I wouldn't wish it on a dog. I begged Dr Elle to discharge me back to my aged care facility. She helped facilitate my return, Dr Elle was great.
I had been there 2 years before and the care was great. The kitchen staff were great, they cared. I suggest that you employ some PCA's as, based on my experience, I feel the nurses aren't interested in doing anything.
