"Great Care From CAU staff"

About: POWH Community Assessment Unit

(as a relative),

In September last year my mother who was in her final stages of MND, booked in to take advantage of VAD (volunteered assisted dying), unfortunately before her booked date she developed a UTI and was admitted to POWH CAU Unit, the staff of the CAU where fantastic and extremely caring, nothing was too hard or annoying for the Nurses and the various teams (Neurology, Palliative care, VAD Team & Nursing staff), as a nurse myself I found great attention and care given to my mother throughout the 10 days we were there, even getting visits from the senior leadership team including the NUM just checking in and making sure our whole family was getting looked after, sadly my mother became too sick to consent to VAD and died a few days later surrounded my friends and family, this was an extremely difficult time for my family  and the staff should be extremely proud to know they made a lasting impression on us, thank you really doesn't cut it but they honestly deserve all the thanks and praise!

Dear pilingscw63,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Community Assessment Unit (CAU).

On behalf of the CAU and all the teams involved in your mother's care, please accept our sincere sympathy on your loss. We recognise this must have been an incredibly difficult and emotional time for you, your family and all those who loved your mother.

I was deeply moved to read your feedback and am pleased to hear that the compassion, kindness and professionalism shown by our nursing staff and treating teams helped support your mother and your family throughout her admission. Providing person-centred care with dignity, respect and compassion, particularly at the end of life, is a privilege we value.

I will be sure to share your feedback with the CAU nursing staff, Neurology, Palliative Care and VAD teams. We know they will be deeply touched to learn how much their care and compassion meant to you and your family.

Thank you again for your beautiful note and for taking the time to recognise our staff.

Warm regards,

Megan Pinfold
