"I feel emergency departments are useless"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child is 11.5 months old, we drove 2.5 hours to get there because for over 3 months my child has been throwing up, belly aches and pains, sleeping difficulties, mucus poos, very very smelly poos, rashes that came and go all over their body, stridor, gasping mid feeds and cant catch their breath and can't finish full feeds at once and our home town hospital is just as bad, just to be told there is no paediatric doctor in the whole hospital who can see my child and there is nothing they could do to help. So again we were told to leave with no answers and a baby screaming the hospital down in pain!

Dear Keeks

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent visit to the Perth Children’s Hospital Emergency Department. We are sorry to hear how difficult this experience was for you and your child, and we appreciate you raising these concerns.

We understand how distressing it is to travel a significant distance seeking care and to feel that the support you expected was not available. Your experience matters, and we want to ensure that the circumstances of your visit are reviewed properly.

To allow us to look into the issues you have raised in more detail, we kindly ask you to contact the Child and Family Liaison Service on 6456 0032 or by email at CAHSFeedback@health.wa.gov.au. The team will be able to access the relevant information, discuss your concerns directly with you, and provide a more comprehensive response.

We look forward to hearing from you so we can ensure you receive the appropriate support, and so we can identify any areas where our processes or communication may be strengthened.

Warm regards

Dr Michael Baker
