"Meal delivery service"

About: Home Care Service (Alpine Health)

(as a service user),

I am satisfied with the meals and delivery service. It's quite good. I've been with this service about 8 weeks and everything is going well. The meals are fine, and in particular I enjoy the fact there's a range of vegetables. The quality, variety and portion sizes are all fine from my point of view.

The communication and support are good. I ring up after the meals have been delivered and organise the next fortnight, and that has been very effective and supportive.

I wasn't getting the meals before. On Meals on Wheels I had some difficulty accepting the meals from the hospital a few years ago, and I went to Lite n' Easy as a private consumer. I see they're providing the meals with the hospital now, and I'm happy about that.

The connection and contact with others - I can appreciate that people who don't have a lot of contact with other people might feel a bit let down or ignored. That's one aspect that possibly needs looking at: ringing them up once a week or once a fortnight to keep that relationship. It's also about their personal feelings and their ability to talk, and that goes in with the last point on if I think there is something they need to improve.

I think the need to arrange somehow for regular contact, either by phone or computer, just so they don't feel, ‘oh, we've given them the food’ and then ignored. They've probably got a lot more emotional support when the meals were delivered on a regular basis.

The delivery doesn't include ringing the doorbell to indicate where the meals are left - they're just gone, and you get a phone message saying your meals are being delivered, but it's more anonymous.

That would be the one weakness in the system, but it doesn't affect me personally.

The prices are excellent - $14 for a three-course meal - and the quality and variety of the meals are excellent. But that last point, the feeling of personal contact, is the one thing that could be improved.
