"After a major event I was coping with the wrong strategies"

About: Lives Lived Well – Nowra (Nana Muru)

(as a service user),

Whilst in a state of depression a major negative thing happened in my life resulting in not coping seeking a fix in the wrong way. I managed to ask for help at the mental hub. I was then directed to Eddie for some counselling. Eddie listened to me for a long time. When I finished telling him everything he told me about how all of these things were actually related and what he said made so much sense that I found myself suddenly feeling some hope for the first time in a long time. Eddie made me feel like I wasn’t going crazy, and that I was perfectly welcome to tell him anything and everything. Each time we spoke after that, I found myself feeling more and more hope regarding things being solvable. I found myself even laughing at times. Eddie had a lot of sayings that I found myself starting to remember and even saying to myself, such as ‘feelings aren’t facts, or ‘shame and blame are not our game!’. Over time I found myself using the many tools that Eddie and I would learn in our sessions. I starting realising how Eddie was right.. There is nothing broken about me.. That I just needed some reassurance and guidance about my ability to deal with the things that I had been thinking.
