I was diagnosed with a tumour in my kidney back in Feb. 2026 . My gp discovered it after I had scans done for my hip replacement and he send me to more scans. My GP sent a referral to an oncologist which I had to wait 1 month for an appointment. My appointment was in May. The oncologist told me that it was a fast growing bad tumour, he referred me to a public hospital and said he would put urgent on the letter.
My family background is that my mother died of cancer age 53 and last year I lost my sister to cancer age 62.
I didn’t hear anything regards my further appointment at the public hospital, contacted my Gp who did everything he could to push forward for an appointment. I still didn’t receive any response from the hospital and now my Gp was getting angry, and contacted the hospital again.
My Gp is the best doctor I ever had and he always call to follow up . I finally got a phone call in June, with a promise of an appointment would be scheduled. I got the date to see the surgeon in start June. My GP was very happy to hear that, and said now they will go forward with my case.
2 days before my appointment I got a text message saying they had to cancel due to they had no doctor available. My GP contacted me to hear how my appointment went, I informed him that it was canceled, which he was not happy about. He contacted the hospital again and he asked to be sent a letter with my new appointment date. Suddenly the week after I got a message saying a reminder you have an appointment at the hospital in June.
I drove 3 hours to the hospital to be told by the surgeon that it was a baddy tumour which have started to grow outside my kidney, but it was slow growing. They also explained that my tumour was a classified stage 4 recording to Bosniak classification , which I believe is bad. They continued explaining the procedure for the surgery and told me I was gonna be fine. At the end of the conversation they told me my surgery would be done between 1 month to 3 month. I asked why so long before my surgery, and they said I was a category 2 - semi urgent.
Can you imagine sitting with a cancer diagnosis and already lost my mom and my sister been told it is semi urgent.
