"Positive diagnostic laparoscopy experience at Albany Health Campus"

About: Albany Health Campus / Day Procedure Unit Albany Health Campus / Operating Theatre Albany Health Campus / Recovery Albany Health Campus / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I had a diagnostic laparoscopy. I was very afraid and nervous, but everyone went above and beyond to make my experience as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

I was given anxiety medication to help me feel more grounded. Andrew (the anesthesiologist), Allan (the anesthesia nurse) and especially Emma were incredible and helped put my mind at ease. Emma in particular went above and beyond for me, making sure I had warm blankets, holding my hand when I got anxious during the cannula insertion, and encouraging me to talk about a recent move to Geraldton to help distract me. I couldnt recommend Emma enough as both a nurse and a wonderful support person for anyone who's feeling nervous about getting surgery.

As someone who's had many negative medical experiences in the past year, the Albany Health Campus crew went above and beyond to make it as positive and experience as possible. I am extremely grateful. 10/10.

Dear snowtc74,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience following your diagnostic laparoscopy.

We are delighted to hear that our team at Albany Health Campus was able to provide such compassionate care during what was understandably a very anxious and stressful time for you. Your feedback highlights the significant difference that kindness, empathy and person-centred care can make to a patient's experience.

We will be pleased to share your compliments with Andrew, Allan and Emma. It is wonderful to hear how Andrew and Allan helped put you at ease, and that Emma's thoughtful gestures—providing warm blankets, offering reassurance during your cannula insertion, holding your hand, and taking the time to engage you in conversation—helped you feel supported and comforted throughout your journey. Your recognition of Emma's exceptional care and support will mean a great deal to her and the team.

We are especially grateful that, despite experiencing negative medical encounters over the past year, your experience at Albany Health Campus helped restore some confidence and made your surgical journey a positive one. Providing safe, compassionate and patient-centred care is at the heart of what we do, and it is rewarding to know that our staff were able to make such a meaningful difference.

Thank you again for your kind words and recommendation. We wish you all the very best with your recovery and ongoing health.

Yours sincerely,

Kate Hambleton
