"High blood pressure and migrane, 17 weeks pregnant"

About: Busselton Health Campus / General Ward Busselton Health Campus / Maternity Unit, Childbirth & Parenting Education

(as the patient),

I was at ward 1 at Busselton hospital. I became faint and unwell. The nurses were amazing, my blood pressure was 160/110. They called the midwife who arrived in less than a minute.

I bypassed ED and was taken down by the nurse to ED. The nurses on this shift were so caring in ED and a english doctor from Cairns. Who listened to my concerns and made me feel relaxed a possible. My pregnancy is high risk for numerous factors. I asked if a midwife could check the baby, she arrived her name was Marmie. She took the babies HR and provided me with support and information that helped me.

Later I was moved to SSU where Marnie liaised with Lauren the head of obs and gynae as she had a clinic and I have been referred to her. I didnt expect this, however, was so thankful she had done this. My pregnancy is IVF high risk and I felt that this communication was above and beyond to ensure all bases were covered. From this consult my meds were increased and I started a 24 hour collection of my urine which was all important additional specialist provided advice to work out was happening.

As I had fallen sick on the ward whilst I was already there I didnt have any bits like toothbrush ect. Different nurses in SSU provided me with self care products, tea and snacks which made a big difference to my comfort.

The next morning one of the nurses had discussed a friend had induced migranes and she liaised with my doctor who spoke to Lauren and I was cleared to start on migrane support which helped as the pain was quite unbearable. I had a scan of the baby to check growth and I was also referred to the specialist medical obs clinic during pregnancy ran by Dr Judith. I was very happy and relieved that I was a priority 1 and had an apt booked in 8 days. This also was an overbook, which shows Dr Judith commitment to supporting women who are high risk like myself.

As a allied health member working in WACHS it was wonderful to see on the patient side what a truly wonderful health service we have at Busselton health campus. My allied health team were extremely supportive as well checking if I needed anything and were very flexible.

Every single person I came past were very supportive. A shout out to the ED nurses and doctors that saw me, my sonographer had wonderful bedside manner and my nurse and doctor on the day shift on Wednesday listened to me and liaised with Lauren which I really appreciated.
