"Treatment of autistic patient"

About: Angliss Hospital

(as a service user),

I felt I was threatened, mocked and denied my prescription medication. They removed my morphine patch, leaving me in agony. I told them at intake that I am autistic, but when I became distressed and hit my head, I was swarmed by several security guards. I was terrified and hid under the bed, screaming ‘please don’t touch me, please don’t touch me.’

My apparent punishment for this ‘poor behaviour’ was to be moved to a storage room in the loudest part of the hospital. They had confiscated my headphones and I had no bed. I was sobbing on the floor while the nurse made sarcastic remarks about ‘consequences’.

Now I am home, I am still in constant fear. I can’t leave the house. I am terrified of everyone I see. My partner has quit their job to care for me because I’ve regressed so far. I’m having nightmares and flashbacks. I can’t even get help because I’m too afraid of doctors now.
