"Great nurse advocate"

About: Sutherland Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

We stayed for 3 nights at Sutherland hospital in the children's ward and 2 of those nights we were fortunate enough to be under the care of Flossie, an incredibly caring nurse.

My 7 month old was very unwell, chest infection, IV antibiotics, high flow oxygen, fevers. He obviously wasn't sleeping well because of all of this.

Flossie was so good at taking charge of the situation, but also balancing out our concerns and providing reassurance. She advocated to the doctors on our behalf and collaborated so well with her colleagues to help our son. She provided fabulous medical care and helped us get some sleep, something I didn't think would be possible.

She really was a shining light during our stay. When people have asked about our hospital stay and how our son is, they haven't escaped being told about Flossie.

Dear scoreboardez39

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of your son's stay in the Children's Ward at Sutherland Hospital.

We are delighted to hear about the positive impact that Flossie had on your family during what must have been a very stressful time. Caring for a young child who is unwell can be incredibly challenging, and it is wonderful to know that Flossie provided not only excellent clinical care, but also reassurance, support and advocacy when you needed it most.

Your comments about the way she collaborated with her colleagues, advocated for your son, and helped your family feel supported will mean a great deal to her and the wider team. We know that compassionate care and effective communication can make a significant difference to a family's hospital experience.

We will ensure that your kind feedback is shared with Flossie, the Children's Ward team and nursing leadership in recognition of the outstanding care you described.

Thank you again for sharing your story, and we are very pleased to hear that your son is now home. We wish him a continued recovery and good health.

Yours sincerely

Joanne Newbury

A/General Manager
