"MGP Care birth of son"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I requested via my GP to be referred to the MGP programme at KEMH. I was keen to have continuity of care and midwife led experience.

I was very much hoping to have a VBAC after my first baby was born via c-section as he was breech. As it turned out, my second baby was also breech! My midwife and the obstetrician I spoke to were incredibly respectful and listened to my wishes and concerns. They provided me with all information, risks and reasoning behind their recommendations. I did opt for a planned c-section and while this was disappointing in some ways, I know it was the best, informed decision. My midwife had been with me throughout pregnancy for all check ups, she was there at the birth of my baby and then followed up with me at my home, which was such a special experience. The care I received at KEMH was so considerate and all the nurses and midwife’s so warm and gentle. I get emotional just thinking about the experience! I now recommend the MGP program to call friends and family.

Dear Lo89,

Congratulations on the birth of your son. It was wonderful to hear how the team were able to support you throughout your journey, even when the plan didn’t go according to your wishes. I’m so pleased we were able to work with you and provide the patient centred care you needed. It’s clear having the same midwife with you throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period had a truly positive and beautiful impact.

It will give me a great deal of pleasure to share your story with the team, and in the meantime, I hope you and your family continue to thrive.

Kind regards,

Jon Day
